Popping Flowers out of Frames

Not updated yet for Photo Editor 2008, but most functionality is applicable.

(other photos besides flowers work too!)

Items Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Create your workspace
    1. Open the digital paper you will be using for your background.
    2. Place the “Bent Frame" element. This is a png file of an empty fram.e
    3. Place the flower photo on top of the frame and resize the photo as needed.
  2. If you wish, fix an imperfections in the flower
    1. Select the flower layer in the Object Palette.

    2. Choose Fix/Rubber Stamp tool

    3. Alt Click to choose area to copy

    4. Carefully fix areas. If you make a mistake, use Undo (CTRL-Z)

  3. Make your flower pop out of the frame
    1. Change the Opacity of the flower to 50% in the Object Palette so the frame can be seen underneath.

      1. Select the flower layer in the Object Palette

      2. In the bottom left of the Object Palette in the Opacity box, type in 50% and hit enter.

    2. Select the Eraser tool and erase the areas around the flower that appear outside of the frame.

      1. Tip: Adjust the hardness of the Eraser to 60 and reduce the brush size when working close to the flower

      2. Zoom in if necessary to see finer details.
      3. When finished erasing, change the Opacity back to 100%

    3. Add a drop shadow to your flower
      1. Choose the Object | Drop Shadow and choose a light shadow.

    4. Group the frame, shadow and photo objects and resize if necessary. To do this:
      1. In the Object Palette, select the frame, shadow, photo

      2. Right click and choose Make Group

      3. Now these elements can be move around together and resized together.
    5. Embellish your page
      1. Add other elements and move them below the Group in the Object Palette.

    6. Name your flower
      1. Select a font and add your flower's name
      2. If desired, add an stamp png below the text as seen in the example. Reduce the opacity of the stamp so that it enhances the text.
